Keep the traffic questions coming
🚦Town Meeting. 🗓 March 10. 🕠 5:30pm. 📍 Atherton Hotel
Traffic questions welcome! 🚦
Congestion, parking, intersections… now is your chance. Keep the questions coming and be part of the conversation.
The feedback so far has been fantastic 👏
👇 These are the questions we’ve collected so far:
If you haven’t added your question yet, there’s still time. Comment below and come along to the Town Meeting.
Tolga road specifically:
What options exist to reduce congestion on Tolga Road, particularly between Golf Links Road and Grove Street, including the potential to cut back and retain the “wildflower wall” to allow for an additional lane?
Should the exit from the park opposite Golf Links Road be made left-turn only to improve safety and traffic flow?
What safety improvements are planned for the intersection of Eclipse Drive and Tolga Road, given high vehicle speeds, restricted sight lines, and mixed commercial access?
If roadworks proceed on Grove Street and Golf Links Road, how will increased traffic on Planet Avenue be managed?
Traffic Flow & Congestion
How does the central pedestrian crossing on Atherton Main Street impact traffic flow, and are there alternative designs that could improve movement while maintaining pedestrian safety?
How is congestion at the Tate Road and Main Street intersections near Tolga affecting traffic flow into Atherton, and what mitigation options are being considered?
Parking (General, Disability & RVs)
Are the main street parking bays in Atherton wide enough for modern vehicles, and can they be redesigned to better accommodate larger cars?
Is there an opportunity to improve signage or education around angle parking to make better use of existing spaces?
Why is parking on Tolga Road near the roundabout so limited for local businesses, and should this area be formally recognised as part of the CBD for parking planning purposes?
What plans exist to improve disability parking, including ensuring spaces are level, appropriately sized, and safely located?
Is there scope to introduce dedicated RV parking in Atherton, such as converting sections of the grassed centres on Cook Street near the Woolworths roundabout into long parallel RV-only parks?
Priors Creek Parklands & Network Design
Why was the original Priors Creek Parklands through-traffic design changed, and what impact will the revised design have on Main Street congestion?
How have traffic projections been modelled for Railway Lane and the new Mabi Lane at Priors Creek, particularly their impact on Jack Street?
Roadworks, Detours & Network Connectivity
Why does Manthey Road (east side of the industrial estate) not connect through to the Isabella Street extension, and can this be reinstated to prevent all traffic being forced through the industrial estate if Tolga Scrub Road is closed?
Through Traffic & Strategic Planning
Has TMR considered diverting through traffic (Malanda/Ravenshoe) away from Atherton Main Street via Robert Street, Cook Street, and Louise Street, and what infrastructure upgrades (roundabouts, road widening) would be required to support this?

✨ So… who are we? ✨
We’re local business owners backing local business.
Sharing knowledge, making connections, spotting issues early, and figuring things out together.
We’re not council.
We’re not consultants.
We’re not regulators.
We’re building a Chamber for people in business — no flashy promises, just real connections, honest conversations, and a collective voice.
Membership is easy.
No meeting requirements.
A small committee doing the work because a unified Chamber matters.
We’re moving forward either way.
If you see value in that, you’re welcome to join us. 💛 ... See MoreSee Less
